This course is for riders (with Some previous experience)

If you haven’t already taken the Theory Test, then the course will start with an hour to take this at a DVSA Theory Test Centre.

We have two different types of Intermediate Courses for those with a CBT and those without. However, both courses are essentially the same. They are further sub-divided for those with a Theory Test and those without.

The first step will be taking the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) or a refresher course. Some trainers will do this on a 125cc and others on a 600cc+ motorcycle. As you have some previous experience this should be a very straight forward day.

Once you have completed the CBT you will legally be able to ride a 125cc motorcycle with L-plates on your own. The next one or two days of training will be preparing you for moving up onto a larger motorcycle (600cc+), as well as improving your road skills.

Typically as soon as you have demonstrated abiliy you will be riding a 600cc+ motorcycle and go through all the training required for the Module 1 Motorcycle Test. Some trainers will use their own area for this whereas others may take you to the local test centre. You can expect to cover the slow manoeuvres; slalom, figure of eight, U-turn, slow ride and pushing & parking, followed by the faster exercises: controlled stop, emergency stop and avoidance (swerve).

Once you've reached the required standard you training will then focus on the Module 2 test. Topics like the Show Me/Tell Me questions, hill starts, dual carriageways, angled starts and the Independent Ride will be covered, as well as general riding on the road.

Once you have passed Module 1 and 2 you will have a full licence to ride any motorcycle.

The options are as follows (these are for geared motorcycles, if you want to ride an automatic follow the Step-by-Step Guide):
